VoIP Equipment Revenues the World Over:

Worldwide revenues of service provider VoIP equipment totalled $1.7 billion in 2004, a strong 36% gain over last year.

The latest quarterly market share and forecast service from Infonetics Research predicts revenue to reach $5.9bn in 2008, representing a five-year compound annual growth rate of 36 per cent.

In North America there were 1.1 million residential/SoHo VoIP subscribers in  2004, this number is predicted to reach 17.4 million by 2008.

North America was identified as "a hot spot" in 2004 as carrier adoption of VoIP is accelerating.

Moving further into the 21st century, it is becoming obvious that IP networks are the next generation networks for all forms of communication. Most carriers are investing in upgrading their networks with VoIP or have plans to do so.

The global market is very  fragmented. A geographic breakdown for total VoIP product shipments in 2004 shows that North America (US, Canada and Mexico) accounted for 48% of the total, Europe, the Middle East and Africa 19%, Asia Pacific 28% and Latin America with 5%.
